State
of Illinois
As it stands now Paul Vallas, Rev. Meeks, Bill Daley, Patrick Quinn, Alexi Giannoulias, Lisa
Madigan and/or Dan Hynes will make the run for governor in 2010. Quite an assortment of talent, don't you think? The current incumbent will probably not be running for re-election. We are about to witness a major realignment of leading statewide democrats.
Legislation: What we are seeing in Springfield is a battle between the mainstream conservative democrats led by Speaker Madigan and a socialistic offshoot led by Rod Blagojevich. The winner will dictate policy for the next few years. When the history books are written, the socialist will be treated as nothing more than a footnote.
Remaining issues to be worked out? Nothing. The budget has been passed and gambling has not been expanded. Layoffs loom.
Cook County
Todd Stroger continues to draw heat for the recent tax increases. Expect a 2010 challenge from James Houlihan and/or Forest Claypool.
City of Chicago
The watchword continues to be the "Olympics".
